Hello! I’m Kat, the person behind this blog.
This photo isn’t a very accurate representation of my life, but I do look really pretty, so up it goes. I’ll post a more true-to-life picture as soon as I find one that’s equally flattering (so, never). The photo was taken on a practice shoot by my friend Christine, who is a fantastic photographer and has an equally fantastic blog, Home, Made. But this page is supposed to be about me, so…
I suppose I’m a typical twenty-something trying to find my way in the world. I read once that you don’t find yourself, you create yourself, and that’s partly what this blog is about: creating the self and the life I truly want, full of things and people and experiences that make me happy. Right now that includes a lot of baking, but I also love art, art history, travel, reading, craft beer and yoga, all of which you’ll read about eventually. I also really love autumn, horror movies, coffee, Denver, 90’s rap, dinosaurs and things that are teal, but you probably won’t hear about those too much.
I live in Denver (and as I mentioned, I LOVE it) with two cats named Timor and Sophie. I currently work as a teacher assistant at a school for kids with special needs, meaning both behavioral and developmental challenges. Before that I worked as a counselor in a residential treatment center for youth with conduct disorders. My job is intense and I have a lot of scars (seriously…my biggest one is from when I got bit on my arm) but I really, really love it. I was a journalism major in college but I hope to go back to grad school for social work next year.
I’m vegetarian, liberal (not a Democrat) and ferociously independent, but I’m also strangely domestic: I love to cook, bake, sew, thrift, and be generally crafty. I like Etsy and Anthropologie. I hate babies. I wear an apron in the kitchen. I’ve travelled the world. I feel like these things are somehow at odds. Is that weird? I guess they’re not really…and I also think there are other people like me out there. If you’re one of them, this blog is for you.
So…do you feel like we’re friends yet? Because I want to be your friend. I bet you’re neat. I hope you’ll share your thoughts and ideas with me, and I’ll keep sharing my thoughts with you. Together we’ll create a vibrant, joyful and interesting life. Let’s do this.
